 Introduction to Integrative Palliative Care

 for Massage Therapy Professionals

September 26 and 27 (Sat-Sun)

Instructor: Emilie Brough, DOM and David Lang, LMT, RMTI-I #0197

Date: September 26 and 27 (Sat-Sun)

Hours: 16 hours

Price: $385 Regular; $349 Early Bird (by August 20)

Time: 9am-6pm

Course Description:

Palliative care is a new specialty in Western medicine that supports a patient’s quality of life at every stage of illness. We know that conscious, compassionate touch cultivates presence and peace in a culture that still pushes vulnerability and mortality away. Massage therapists’ passion for client-centered care and whole-hearted presence uniquely position them to provide integrative palliative care. This includes symptom management, addressing pain on many levels, and reverence for the whole person. It is time now in a changing and challenged health care industry for massage therapists to learn to collaborate in a new model of medicine.

In this introductory weekend you will learn skills through self-examination, dialogue with Western palliative professionals, and hands-on techniques. This 2-day course is designed to orient you to work, with loving expertise, in an institutionalized medical setting.

Instructors: Emilie Brough, DOM and David Lang, LMT, RMTI-I #0197 have together over 40 years of experience in both private practice and in-patient and out-patient adult and pediatric palliative care and oncology, as well as meditation and mindful movement practices. They are employed by UNM Health Science Center and UNM’s Center for Life, as well as maintaining private practices in the integrative medicine community.

This class is approved under David Lang ‘s National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) continuing education Approved Provider # 451588-11
